The story of the Battle of Midway, told by the leaders and the sailors who fought it.

Aichi D3A[]

Seen during the attack on Pearl Harbor and possibly in later battles, we never get a good look at the model. However, they can be distinguished by their fixed landing gear.

Aichi E13A[]

One E13A was seen during the climax flying through clouds and sighting the American fleet.

Douglas SBD Dauntless[]

One of the main aircraft.

The US National Insignia until May15, 1942 had the red dot centered white star and from January to May the thirteen red and white stripes on rudder but in the movie sadly there's no trace!

On the day of the battle (June4, 1942) all US planes had the correctly depicted white star without the red dot washed out after the Coral Sea battle

Douglas TBD Devastator[]

Especially for the movie was built a TBD replica now on display on USS Midway in San Diego

Martin B-26 Marauder[]

A group of these (more than twelve) were seen attacking the Japanese fleet with bombs, though in real life they were four planes and attacked with torpedoes only. One almost crashed onto the Akagi which did happen in real life.

North American B-25J Mitchell[]

These were seen during the Doolittle Raid segment instead of the historycally correct B-25B

The US Insignia correctly has the red dot carried at that time (April 18, 1942) but very strangely on upper wings there are the two white side bars introduced in 1943 and never carried with the red dot centered white star!

Vought OS2U Kingfisher[]

One of these was sitting on the USS Arizona during the Pearl Harbor segment, and got destroyed. Actually the two Kingfisher were both at Ford Island NAS on December 7, 1941 and not on the USS Arizona. The US Insignia correctly has the red dot carried at that time but strangely absent on all SBD and TBD! Furthermore the thirteen red and white stripes on rudder were painted starting from January 1942 only!
